Believe it or not, this was where the Burnham on Sea line crossed over Church Street on the busy A38. Highbridge East A Box was just where the car is standing. The building on the left, now a bed and breakfast used to be a public house selling View from the footbridge above looking due east. the remains of the S&D station is 3 foot under here! The station was flattened in 1971 when the area was turned into a depot for storage of flyash used in the construction of the M5. Highbridge locomotive works (closed in 1930 with the redundancy of 400 people) was roughly where there modern warehouses are in the far distance. It is hard to believe that until March 1966 one could have taken a train to Bournemouth from here! April 2002. Henstridge Station (Site). Taken looking north towards Wincanton, the station occupied the middle ground, and the land now built on. At least one or two of the roads in the rabbit warren estate have a suitable name. That makes it all worthwhile. Doesn’t it? I even spotted a house named Essendee….
